How To Organize Your Closet

I have always been someone that loves to organize. There is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment after you have finished organizing and the sense of peace when you know that everything is in its place. My favourite thing to organize is my closet. It is so much easier to find things when your closet is clean so here are some tips that I have for organizing your closet.

1. Get Rid of Unwanted Clothes

This is something that I personally find very difficult becasue I have a tendency to get very attached to things even if I never use them. Although difficult, this step is important because without it your closet will be full and cluttered with clothes you will never wear. When I am deciding whether or not to keep something I ask myself questions such as: Have I worn this in the last year? Does it still fit? Would I buy this item today? The clothes that I choose to get rid of I usually donate to charity but you can also sell them online or give them to a friend or family member.

2. Clean Your Closet

Just because a closet is empty does not mean it’s “clean”. This is when you should wipe down the closet walls, dust, and vacuum. When you are finished this step then your closet is ready to be filled with clothes again.

3. Start Organizing

Tops, Dresses, and Sweaters: If you have enough space then you should hang all of your tops. You will be more likely to wear them when you can see them. I usually colour code my tops and dresses so that they are organized and easy to find. I also organize my dresses by season and length. For sweaters I fold the very heavy ones so that they don’t lose shape on the hanger.

Jeans: There are many different ways to arrange your jeans. I organize my jeans by colour but they can also be organized by brand or style. I hang my jeans by the hem and organize them by light to dark denim.

Bags: I like to have as many of my bags visible as possible because it is hard to change bags if you can’t see them. I keep some of my bags on shelves and I also hang some up throughout my room.

Shoes: Some of my shoes are kept in my closet and others are displayed on shelves in my room. The shoes that I keep on the shelves are the ones that I wear most often so it is convenient to keep them somewhere easy to get.

Those were all of my tips to having an organized closet and I hope that they helped! Have an amazing weekend!
